Ryan M. Camara's lecture/demonstrations focus on the history of the Mande people, the integral role of music and dance in their culture and the origins and purposes of their traditional instruments and rhythms. His programs feature the most complete, in-depth musical history of the Sene-Gambian region dating back to before the Mali Empire intertwined with spectacular playing demonstrations of jembes, dunduns, gongoma, krinyi and bolon. Ryan's programs incorporate multi-media presentations and exclusive footage of traditional and popular music and dance in Guinea and can include a hands-on component to provide students with the most complete and accurate pictures of one of the worlds' most fascinating musical cultures.
