Ryan M. Camara's school residency programs offer an exciting hands-on introduction to West African Music, Dance and Culture, while helping to develop essential art and life skills and cultivate a desire to continue exploring musical traditions from around the world. Based on his book/DVD/CD, West African Drum and Dance: A Yankadi-Macrou Celebration, the village environment springs to life as students drum, dance and sing their way through an easy-to-follow curriculum that fosters active listening, group participation and awareness.

Ryan's unique process, developed for the World Rhythms! Arts Program with co-author Kalani, combines speaking, moving, drumming, singing and playing in each session for a more holistic based approach to music and movement education that supports the National Music and Dance Standards, while remaining flexible and engaging to students of all ages. The multiple-discipline curriculum combines music, movement, language, history, social studies and geography and can easily be integrated into existing units to enhance educational modules with interactive multi-cultural experiences.

Residencies often culminate with a public performance by participants in the program and follow-up continuing education materials and courses are available for teachers.

While Ryan is available for residencies anywhere, he is currently a featured Artist in Residence for the Arts Council of Southern Oregon.
