Community Workshops

Ryan M. Camara Community Drumming Workhops
Ryan M. Camara's community workshops are the ideal way for your community to share in the joy of group music making, while experiencing the traditional rhythms of the Mande and their accurate origins, histories and uses. Ryan's clear and easy-to-follow format enables students of all levels to learn proper technique, production of basic sounds, and exercises for stamina and speed for jembe and dunduns in a dynamic, high-energy environment fostering group participation, awareness and expression.
Workshops can be separated according to level with different rhythms and techniques being taught accordingly. Ryan always builds rhythms from the ground up with traditional dundun parts, common ballet style interpretations, jembe accompaniments, common breaks and arrangements and for more advanced workshops, traditional solos with actual application to dance steps.
Ryan commonly travels with a Master Dancer from Guinea during workshop tours, allowing drummers and dancers can learn both the rhythm and dance in an integrated environment. Because of Ryan's ability to speak the Susu language and his years of traveling to and studying in Guinea, Ryan can always bring something new to your community and help everyone to perfect skills, rhythms, techniques and histories that may be unclear.
