Ryan M. Camara Community Drumming Classes

Just as the jembe and its family of the associated instruments provide the music for village communities in Guinea, the study of the West African music can bring communities together all over the world. Traditional West African drumming possesses inherent attributes that promote group interaction, active listening, communication and awareness. Like the instruments themselves, these attributes transcend age, gender, affiliation, and social status making West African music and dance classes, workshops, camps and special events the ultimate tool for creating and maintaining community.

Ryan has conducted hundreds of community classes and events over the past 10 years in communities throughout California, Oregon, Montana, Colorado, and in Guinea West Africa.

Some special community highlights include

  • Denbaya community classes (2004 07)
  • Drum Camp: Los Angeles, Santa Cruz and Ashland (2001 2007)
  • Fore-Fote Guinea Workshop (2000 2004)
